Training.
The club meets at the Abergavenny leisure centre school gym every Monday from 7pm to 8:30 pm and Thursday from 7pm to 8:30 pm. These times are flexible for younger students. Our club trains in the Shotokan style of karate and is affiliated to the Japan Karate Association. This means that the club trains in the same way as is currently practised in Japan.
The emphasis is on long term development and understanding of karate techniques rather than a short term goal of  displaying flashy high kicks or simply trying to win medals. We practice a non contact style of karate that is safe and fun. Karate provides a good workout but trainees are not expected to push themselves beyond their own limits. Anyone who is not flexible and is unfit will be given time to get used to the training methods and will slowly but surely find that their body adapts to the training.
The type of karate we practise is a sport, a self defence method and a fascinating  martial art. Beginners are always welcome and can either just watch for a while or join in.
